Update an XML file with xmlstarlet
xmlstarlet is a great tool for working with XML files.
To change a value:
xmlstarlet edit --inplace --update "xpath" -v "NEW_VALUE" file.xml
To delete elements:
xmlstarlet edit --inplace --delete "xpath" file.xml
